Monica den Hertog is a conceptual artist based in Toowoomba, Australia. With a love of the natural world and a foundation in built-environment design, her work challenges audiences to re-imagine their relationships and interrelationships with place.

A graduate of Curtin University’s fine arts program, Monica’s revealing Air Toxicity body of work is being showcased in the upcoming exhibition, The Air We Share, at the Ipswich Community Gallery in May 2025.

Monica’s layered compositions reveal things felt but unseen — discomforting juxtapositions of soft and hard, light and dark, built and natural, ephemeral and permanent — highlighting themes of environmental degradation and alienation.

An experimental and investigative approach to contemporary drawing, painting, photography, and mixed media, the trajectory of Monica’s artistic journey promises to be innovative and inspiring.
